Matches are not available like they used to be. Great for camping or emergencies

The tiny thumbscrews are difficult to tighten and loosen. A larger knob would really help. On several occasions, I had to use pliers to unscrew the match, and I was careful not to cross-thread any of them. Speaking of which, a couple of them were very difficult to keep from cross-threading. At almost every attempt to screw them in straight, they would suddenly cant and try to go in at an angle. I tried turning them backwards (in the unscrewing direction) to feel for the threads to align, but I couldn’t feel it. Finally, most egregious, is that two of the 5 containers leak. One leaks so fast that I can’t get it filled fast enough to see the fluid pooled in the bottom of the canister, much less to the midpoint as the instructions indicate. The other leaks more slowly, and I didn’t realize it at first. I filled the container according to the instructions, wiped up what I thought must be spillage, and started to break-in the flint. On the 3rd or 4th strike, the match lit, but so did the bottom of the canister. It began to burn my hand. After I extinguished the flame, I held the canister high and watched as fuel slowly pooled and dripped from the bottom.
So, after this experience, I decided that these are unreliable garbage and a safety hazard. I proceeded to process a return, and to my surprise, they wanted me to ship them back even though I have already poured fluid in them. I’m not 100% on laws about shipping flammable liquids, but I’m pretty sure that I can’t ship anything that is leaking fuel. I guess the set was cheap enough that I can throw the leaking ones away and hope that the other ones don’t fail, but I don’t have much faith in that idea. I’ll probably find another brand that works as advertised and get rid of all 5 of these. The savings isn’t worth the burns.

I like to think that when I leave a comment, that it is accurate and truthful. The predominance of my comments are positive. This product, however, rates a negative comment. I purchased these survive lighters because they intrigued me. I watched the video attached to this product. It seemed straightforward and easy to use. Not so. Once I scraped the coating off of the flint it should have struck easily. Again, not so. It takes numerous strikes to achieve a flame. I have lengthened the wick, I have shortened the wick. Both to no avail. It still takes quite a while to achieve a flame. As an added nuisance, unless you place your finger over the well hole, lighter fluid sloshes out while you are attempting to light the wick. I recommend that anyone considering purchasing this item to look for other products.

I think I read somewhere you could use kerosene in lieu of lighter fluid. I’m not sure as originally I used charcoal lighter fluid.
I found lighter fluid. THe matches light with EVERY SPARK!
I now rate this product FIVE STARS! This is based on the product AND the company’s superb customer focus.
I wrote a less than flowery review a couple of weeks ago. See below.
The company immediately responded with a fix and suggestions where to buy fluid. I haven’t try the new ‘matches’ yet but I’m giving the product FOUR STARS based on the company’s customer focus. I’m expecting to go to FIVE STARS as soon as I get lighter fluid.
ORIGINAL REVIEW. So far, I’m unable to get it to work. I don’t have lighter fluid. In fact Ive been to three stores so far and none carry it.
I used charcoal lighter. The spark is great but it won’t light the wick. I’ll get some lighter fluid and report back.

Not what i was looking for. I was just grabbing up prepping supplies snd was tired of reading about every single thing so I got these. Id i had read the description I wouldn’t have bought them because I don’t want to load something with lighter fluid which for me would be a mess. Then after using it I’d have to load the wick. So i was hoping for a ready to go long lasting item. I got some waterproof matches on the way and I will just get some more lighters. Thank you.

This is not as reliable as i was hoping for. It takes several strikes to light and the container catches on fire every time, which is a little nerve racking. The wick is totally gone after just a couple lights. Have to pull the sticker out and readjust it which gets lighter fluid all over my hands.
They work, once you get them started. They hold a pretty good flame. Just wish they were a little more user friendly. A see through fluid level on the side would be nice so you can tell how much is in there. If nothing else, they hold lighter fluid i can dump on stuff to make it easier to start.

The reason why it got a 4 star review is because this buy is missing lighter fluid.

I got these for my husband and dad who are both avid outdoors men. They love the fact that they are waterproof and are super easy to light! We will never have to buy lighters again!

While the title of ‘permanent match’ may be a bit grandiose, the match is reliably functional once the covering film is scratched away from the ferro strip.
We used Zippo lighter fluid, and the suggestion to fill the lighter only to the 3/4 mark is a valid one, in order to not cause overflow spillage when reinserting the ‘match after striking.
It’s good to have spare wicks as part of the offering, though it should not be necessary for quite a few uses.
The thin O ring attached to the key ring, well, it’s really flimsy. The hole for the key ring is small, making it difficult to insert, as it is a really tight fit.
We recommend the match based on the reliability of getting a flame that lasts a few seconds, and the bonus of spare wicks.

I have no other purpose for this other than an emergency or if someone needs to light a candle for a party. It came in a multipack so I can give away the other 3. I always like to have a backup anyways.
It has a seal to prevent the lighter fluid from leaking. The lighting of the match took a few tries to learn but it was not hard after watching the video. I had no issue with it leaking or spilling fluid. You only put enough fluid to go up 2/3 full or you will have too much inside.
For the price, it is a good value. For the design, it is unobtrusive and small enough for a pocket. It is lightweight and feels durable.
